So, you’re ready to get online — that’s brilliant. Whether you’re launching a small business, side hustle, or personal brand, having your own website is a powerful first step. I’ve helped dozens of clients in Ireland go from “I have an idea” to “My site is live,” and today I’m sharing a simple, beginner-friendly checklist to help you do the same.
Spoiler alert: It’s not as complicated as it sounds — especially when you’ve got the right tools and someone to help connect the dots. That’s where I come in.
Step 1: Choose and Register Your Domain Name
Your domain is your digital address — it’s what people will type into their browser to find you (like yourbusiness.ie or yourbrand.com).
For Irish businesses, I always recommend registering a .ie domain if you’re targeting customers in Ireland. It adds trust and shows you’re a real, verified entity.
To register a .ie domain, you’ll need to provide proof of connection to Ireland (business registration number, VAT number, or even a utility bill if you’re a sole trader). The weare.ie site is the official resource and provides all the document requirements.
💡 My recommendation: Use an Irish-based domain registrar like:
- Blacknight
- Hosting Ireland
- Letshost
These companies are fully approved .ie registrars and make the process smooth.
Step 2: Choose Fast, Reliable Hosting (I Recommend SiteGround)
This is where your website actually lives. Good hosting ensures your site loads quickly, stays secure, and doesn’t crash if you get a surge of visitors.
Personally, I highly recommend SiteGround. I’ve been using and recommending them for years — and here’s why:
- Blazing-fast speeds with built-in caching
- Top-tier customer support (especially helpful when you’re starting out)
- Easy WordPress installation with one click
- Great uptime and security features
- Affordable pricing with premium features included
Yes, SiteGround isn’t based in Ireland — but that’s not a problem. In fact, it’s a strength. Their global data centers mean your website is super-fast, no matter where your audience is. Most of my Irish clients use SiteGround without a hitch.
The only thing to keep in mind? Since SiteGround doesn’t offer .ie domain registration, you’ll need to register your domain elsewhere (as outlined above). Don’t worry — I can handle linking everything together for you. That’s part of what I do.
Step 3: Connect Your Domain and Hosting
Once you have your domain registered (step 1) and hosting set up (step 2), they need to be linked together. This usually involves pointing your domain’s nameservers to SiteGround. Sounds techie? It is — but it’s also something I do all the time.
My clients don’t have to touch a single setting. You just tell me what domain you want, and I’ll handle the rest behind the scenes.
Step 4: Set Up Your Website
Whether you’re starting from scratch or have a vision in mind, I can help build a professional, responsive, and fast website using WordPress, the world’s most popular website platform.
Together, we’ll:
- Choose the right theme and layout
- Install essential plugins for performance and security
- Set up contact forms, galleries, product listings, or whatever you need
- Optimize it for speed, mobile and SEO
Step 5: Get Support & Grow
Getting online is just the beginning. Once your site is live, you’ll want to keep it updated, secure, and performing at its best.
That’s where my Website Maintenance Plans, Speed Optimization Services, and WordPress Training come in. Whether you want me to handle everything, or just be on standby when you need help, I’ve got you covered.
